YEAR-Bookin’ !!

Posted: March 14th, 2008 by bigscrapkitty

WHEW! In the past 2 1/2 weeks, I’ve laid out 104 pages of yearbooks for three schools!! And I say I never get to scrap! I ended up making a lot of things to use in the books, and re-purposing some things from my Gotta Get Organized kit, and I’ve gathered them together here in a little kit for you!

You get 10 great backgrounds, three frames, two push pins, two torn notepapers and a piece of cellophane tape. The backgrounds come in 12×12 AND 8.5×11 for all you rectangle scrappers! All images created at 300ppi for best print quality.

If you’d like to see some of what you can do with these, look here

You can get this kit - PERFECT for the end-of-the-year school pictures - on the blog for HALF price - $1.50 (just until it hits my stores!) Regular price $2.99

Look what the ScrapKitty did!

Posted: March 14th, 2008 by daddykitty

As you might have noticed the ScrapKitty (my darling wife Jenn White) has been out of the loop the past few weeks. The reason is she has been working hard on 3 yearbooks - one for each of our kids. On two she has a wide range of creative control and basically “scrapped” them! Check out this slide show of the pages from the books. I especially love #6,7,9, and 12! I’m proud of her!

Quick Tip Tuesday - A great site for info on digital cameras

Posted: March 10th, 2008 by daddykitty

Digital Photography review logo

One of the best sites I have found for information on digital cameras is www.dpreview.com. The founder and editor Phil Askely and his staff provide detailed, full reviews of digital cameras, news about up-coming cameras, and forums to post and read other people’s opinions. The site is easy to navigate and to quickly find the information you need. I like the in-depth reviews because it will show you screen shots of every screen and a explanation of all of the items on a screen or dial. Great if you forget what thePortrait icon or Close up icon mean!

Keep scrappin!

WE SOLD OUR COOKIES!! yay!

Posted: March 5th, 2008 by bigscrapkitty

This weekend, my Girl Scout Troop managed to sell the last of our cookies!  This is a big deal, because we have to PAY for them whether we sell them or not!  On March 17, I have to write a $3200 check and I sweat bullets till we have enough money in the bank to pay that bill.  So.. thanks to a generous mom, who bought the last couple cases so we could all go home, we’re DONE!

To celebrate, I’ve extended my sales at BOTH stores - Digitalscrapn and SOTB - 40% off all kits! AND you can still get my free Easter Mini with any purchase - just email me your invoice (or copy and paste your order download page) and I’ll send you a link!

And if you didn’t get all my daily downloads from last week, scroll back thru the blog - I left the links active for a little while ;)

Happy Scrapping!

Quick Tip Tuesday - A mind is a terrible thing to waste!

Posted: March 3rd, 2008 by daddykitty

We delayed this tip a week so Jenn could post her great 2 for 1 Daily Download series!

One of the most satisfying aspects of writing for this blog is remembering all the cool Photoshop or Elements stuff tucked somewhere way back in my little old head. Here’s one that is a HUGE timesaver and uses a feature that I, yet again, need to do daily but always forget. Digiscrappers will use this one a lot:

You have a picture or kit open and want to add something to it - another picture or an element from another kit. What I do is go File-Open, Open the new kit. Find the layer with the element, hit Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy, click the original document window so it’s active again, and hit Ctrl-V to paste.

Whew… way too much work.

What I should do is use the Place command. Look under your File menu in Photoshop or Elements. The Place command opens a picture or element and immediately puts it into the document you are working on - no more select, copy and paste. Cool and fast!

An added benefit is that in Photoshop CS2/CS3 (sorry Element’s users!) when you Place an element it makes it into a Smart Object that you can resize larger or smaller multiple times and not lose quality. A smart object “remembers” it’s original size. Here’s a link to an article by Dave Cross in Peach Pit Press “Work Smart with Photoshop CS2’s Smart Objects” that gives a great explanation.

Until next week - Keep Scrappin!
